it's been a busy week, and it will be another busy one from here on, without much of a break. i'm feeling a bit worn out, but i should have enough time tonight and tomorrow to rest and refresh at least somewhat.
i usually try to keep these entries focused on what's already happened, since if i write about both past and future every time, i'll often end up talking about things twice. but right now, i'm very focused on what i need to do in the next two days. i am doing an important performance in brooklyn on sunday, so i need to prepare for that tomorrow (saturday). but there's also a big storm expected throughout the entire weekend, with lots of rain and gusting wind. i am still a little bit scarred from the time two weeks ago when we tried to drive to providence and had to turn back because of flooding; i'm thinking of taking the northern route to avoid passing that same way, but i'm still a bit nervous and will probably leave super early.
what else has been happening? well...
- i went to the city this past sunday and monday to see friends and work a shift. it was a nice trip.
- i then returned home and worked the rest of the week at the art studio. in the evenings, i prepared the first Physical Objects for av club and mailed them out this morning. (i still need to email people to tell them!)
- at my studio job, we debated for a long time how to raise up a very heavy object into the air. eventually, we ended up building a wooden scaffold and lifting it up with ratchet straps. ratchet straps are very powerful. if we were rigging people, i'm sure there is some kind of pulley thing that would have been better, but the ratchet straps worked shockingly well.
- andrei is in the midwest for the video sync conference, so though i've had little down time at home, that which i have had has been spent alone.
- i'm reading (listening to) gene wolfe's book of the new sun a bit obsessively. it's very engrossing, and i'm so curious about where things are going. i'm a sucker for intricate science fiction, and if it's wearing the costume of fantasy, that works for me too.
earlier this evening, i looked out my window and was startled by the sky's sunset shade of pink. when i walked closer, i was even more startled to see that in the middle of that pink, there was a little arc of bright rainbow peeking through the trees. of course, a phone photo doesn't do it justice, but here it is just the same.
